Mexican Truckers Block Border Crossings Over B-1 Visa Concerns

Mexican truck drivers blocked commercial border crossings in Mexicali and San Luis Río Colorado on Thursday as they protested increased inspections and the revocation of B-1 visas by U.S. authorities.

Drivers said they want clearer explanations about why visas are being revoked and what activities U.S. officials consider violations of cabotage rules.

B-1 visa holders can transport international freight between Mexico and the United States, but they cannot haul domestic freight between two locations inside the U.S.

The protest disrupted commercial traffic at the Mexicali-Calexico crossing. Drivers warned that demonstrations could expand to other border crossings if their concerns are not addressed.

The dispute could have a wider impact on cross-border freight if the protests continue, especially for carriers and shippers that depend on regular commercial traffic between Mexico and the United States.
