Canada Faces New 50% U.S. Tariffs as Deadline Nears

Canada Faces New 50% U.S. Tariffs as Deadline Nears

Canadian businesses are watching closely as a new round of U.S. tariffs approaches. Unless Washington and Ottawa reach an agreement, the United States plans to impose 50% duties on roughly $20 billion worth of Canadian goods.

The affected products include items such as dairy, cement, clothing and other exports. Unlike many earlier tariff measures, these duties would also apply to goods that normally qualify for preferential treatment under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement.

Despite the deadline, many Canadian companies have avoided rushing shipments across the border and are instead preparing for possible higher costs and additional uncertainty in cross-border trade.
