Alabama Halts Dyed Diesel Enforcement for 120 Days

Alabama is temporarily changing enforcement of dyed diesel rules as high fuel prices put additional pressure on the state’s agriculture and timber industries.

Governor Kay Ivey directed the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency to stop prioritizing commercial vehicle inspections aimed at identifying dyed diesel use for the next 120 days. Troopers will instead focus CMV inspections on vehicles that present safety concerns.

Dyed diesel is tax-exempt fuel normally reserved for off-road equipment and machinery. The enforcement change took effect immediately on September 24.
