California Farm Group Calls for “No Movement of Goods Day” on October 1

A California agricultural organization is calling for a “No Movement of Goods Day” on October 1 as high diesel prices increase costs for farmers and trucking companies.

The Fresno-based Nisei Farmers League proposed the one-day action to draw attention to the cost of producing and transporting food. The group says diesel prices are approaching $8 per gallon in some parts of California and that some diesel-dependent truckers are also discussing a possible work stoppage.

The organization has not identified trucking groups or carriers that have committed to participate. There is also still no confirmation of a separately organized nationwide truck driver strike on October 1.
