Global Diesel Shortage Could Continue Into 2027

Truckers and carriers could face continued pressure from high diesel costs as global fuel supplies remain tight.

Reuters reports that disruptions linked to the wars in Iran and Ukraine have reduced diesel supplies and pushed inventories to unusually low levels. U.S. distillate inventories stood at about 107.9 million barrels on September 11, according to EIA data.

The EIA expects U.S. distillate inventories to remain below normal levels through much of 2027. Additional supply disruptions or major refinery outages could put further pressure on diesel prices.
