Peter Yermolovich — Owner of Expedite Transportation
Peter Yermolovich, owner of Expedite Transportation in Lakeville, Minnesota, spoke with CDL Crew about how he started as a truck driver, why he chose expedited freight, and his goal of building a company that can run without his daily involvement.

How It All Started
— Peter, how did you get started in trucking?
— It all started with driving. I was driving myself, and then I started driving with a friend. That's how things began to grow.
That's really when Expedite Transportation was born. We decided to focus on expedited freight.
Less Sitting, More Driving
— Why did you choose expedited freight?
— It helped us maximize our profits. When we were on the road, we were making money. Less time sitting, more time driving.
In this industry, you get paid when your wheels are moving.
That's why Expedite became more focused on team driving, with two drivers working together in one truck.
From Truck Driver to Company Owner
— When did you feel like this was becoming a real company instead of just a job?
— You know, for a long time it was just a job. And I can still say it's a job right now because I'm doing almost everything myself.
I'm driving, dispatching, planning routes, handling safety, and managing the business.
Only now am I starting to delegate some of that work to other people so I can turn it into a real company.
Finding the Right People
— What's the hardest part about handing over some of your responsibilities?
— I wouldn't say giving up control is the hard part.
The hardest part is finding the right people for the right jobs.
Building a Company That Runs Without You
— Where would you like to see your business in a few years? What would make you feel successful?
— For me, success would be being able to step aside and have the company keep running without me.
Advice for Future Trucking Company Owners
— What advice would you give to a truck driver who dreams of starting their own trucking company?
— Just keep your head up.
Every challenge that comes your way, treat it as experience.
And just keep moving forward.
