Truckers Discuss October 1 Shutdown as Diesel Costs Rise

Calls for truck drivers to shut down on October 1 are spreading as high diesel prices add pressure to owner-operators and small carriers.

OOIDA says it cannot organize a strike because many of its members are independent business owners rather than employees. Organizing a collective boycott could raise antitrust issues.

The organization says it supports truckers’ rights to peaceful protest and is not opposed to drivers who independently choose to participate on October 1. However, there is currently no centrally organized nationwide strike.
