Truck Driver Pleads Guilty After X-Ray Finds Man in Sleeper at U.S. Border

A truck driver has pleaded guilty after an X-ray inspection at the U.S.-Canada border revealed an unauthorized passenger standing inside the sleeper of his semi.

The truck entered the United States through the Peace Bridge in Buffalo, New York, on June 24. Federal prosecutors say the driver told CBP officers no one else was inside, but an X-ray showed another person in the sleeper.

The passenger was a Romanian citizen living in Canada who did not have permission to enter the United States and was not listed on the truck’s manifest. He has already been convicted and sentenced in a separate case.

The driver pleaded guilty to bringing an alien into the United States. He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is scheduled for December 22.
