Indiana State Police conducted a targeted commercial vehicle enforcement operation in an I-70 construction zone, focusing on unsafe following distances among semi-trucks.

During “Operation Space Cadet,” troopers made 228 traffic stops, issued 159 citations and 132 warnings, identified 53 commercial vehicle violations, and made 16 arrests.

Police said crashes in the work zone dropped from an average of about eight per week before the operation to three during the enforcement period, with no injury crashes.
