Truck Driver Looks at Phone, Semi Overturns

A truck driver was using his phone when his semi-truck ran off the road and overturned in Idaho.

The crash happened on October 30, 2026, around 3:14 PM on Interstate 15 near mile marker 95, northwest of Blackfoot.

According to Idaho State Police, a 35-year-old driver from North Carolina was driving a 2024 Volvo semi-truck with a refrigerated trailer.

The driver was using a mobile device when the truck left the highway and entered the right shoulder.

While trying to get back onto the road, the semi overturned and partially blocked the right lane.

The driver was not injured, but police reported that he was not wearing a seat belt.

Traffic was affected while towing crews worked to remove the truck.

The crash remains under investigation.

What This Means for CDL Drivers

Looking at a phone for even a few seconds can lead to a serious crash.

A loaded semi-truck can be difficult to control when it leaves the pavement, especially when the driver tries to return to the roadway.

Keeping your eyes on the road and wearing a seat belt can help prevent serious injuries.
