The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) said inspectors checked over 4,500 commercial vehicles during this year’s Brake Safety Day event.
A total of 574 trucks were placed out of service because of serious brake violations that made the vehicles unsafe to continue operating.
Inspectors found problems including worn brake parts, air leaks, damaged brake hoses, and defective brake systems.
CVSA said brake-related violations continue to be one of the biggest safety issues found during roadside inspections.
Officials also focused on brake drums and rotors during this year’s inspection campaign.
Most trucks passed inspection successfully, but CVSA reminded drivers and carriers to regularly inspect and maintain brake systems before trips.
