Georgia Police Now Accept Digital Driver's Licenses

Drivers in Georgia can now show their driver's license on their phone during certain police stops.

On October 30, 2026, the Georgia Department of Public Safety announced that its officers can now accept digital driver's licenses and state IDs.

This includes Georgia State Patrol troopers, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers, and Capitol Police.

Drivers can use a supported digital license stored on their phones.

During a traffic stop, tell the officer that you want to present your digital license. Then hold your phone near the officer's ID reader.

You do not need to hand over your phone.

The officer can only receive the information you approve for sharing.

Other police departments in Georgia may not yet accept digital licenses. They have until July 1, 2027, to obtain the required verification equipment.

What This Means for CDL Drivers

Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers in Georgia can now check supported digital identification.

But truck drivers should still carry their physical CDL card.

A digital license is an additional option, not a reason to leave your physical CDL at home.
