EEOC Sues Texas Trucking Company Over Driver Age Limits

A Texas trucking company is facing a federal lawsuit over allegations that older truck drivers were denied jobs because of their age.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says Trancasa USA refused to hire a group of driver applicants over age 65 beginning at least in June 2023 because the company's liability insurance did not cover them.

The lawsuit also alleges that applicants over 60 were subjected to stricter driving-record requirements.

The EEOC says federal age-discrimination law protects workers age 40 and older and that an employer cannot use an insurance company's requirements to justify discriminatory hiring practices. The allegations have not yet been decided by a court.
