U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is pushing back against a lawsuit filed by multiple states seeking to block federal access to the CDL Information System.
The states say access to the database, which contains personal information for millions of CDL holders, raises privacy concerns. USDOT argues that FMCSA needs the records to enforce licensing and safety rules and says AAMVA is required to provide the requested information.
Duffy also pointed to recent enforcement actions involving improperly issued CDLs, unqualified training providers, and English-language requirements, saying the department intends to continue challenging drivers and programs that do not meet federal standards.
