New Import Duties Coming for Chinese Van Trailers

Imported van trailers from China are set to face new U.S. trade duties after federal regulators concluded that the imports are hurting American trailer manufacturers.

The U.S. International Trade Commission made its final determination on September 25, finding that van-type trailers and trailer subassemblies from China are being sold in the United States at unfairly low prices and are also subsidized by the Chinese government.

Following the decision, the U.S. Department of Commerce will issue antidumping and countervailing duty orders on the affected imports.

The decision could change the economics of imported trailer equipment for fleets and trailer buyers as the new duties take effect.
