Pennsylvania Builds Truck Safety Pull-Off

On October 16, 2026, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced new construction work on a truck safety pull-off along US-322 near Port Matilda Mountain in Centre County.
Paving work is scheduled to begin October 20 as part of a $570,000 safety project.
The pull-off is located along eastbound US-322 before a steep downhill grade.
The new area will allow truck drivers to stop, inspect their vehicles, check their brakes, and select a lower gear before descending the mountain.
Construction may cause traffic delays on October 20 and 21, between 9 AM and 3 PM.
The project is expected to be completed in early November 2026.
What This Means for CDL Drivers
Truck drivers hauling heavy loads on US-322 will have a designated place to prepare before the steep downhill section.
The pull-off is designed to improve safety and help drivers avoid dangerous situations involving overheated brakes or loss of control.
Drivers should watch for construction crews and temporary traffic restrictions until the project is completed.
