Texas Extends Diesel Fuel Waiver

Good news for some older trucks in Texas!

On October 20, 2026, the EPA announced it would extend special diesel fuel rules in Texas.

The new period runs from October 25 through November 13, 2026.

The change allows fuel companies to sell diesel with more sulfur than regular highway diesel.

Why?

Texas is dealing with fuel supply problems, and officials want to make more diesel available.

But here's the important part.

This fuel is only for older engines that were built and approved to use it. That generally means engines made before the 2007 engine model year.

**Do not put this fuel in a newer truck that requires ultra-low sulfur diesel.**

If your truck has a DPF or certain exhaust-cleaning systems, the higher-sulfur fuel can cause serious damage.

The rule does not change the fuel requirements for modern trucks.

What This Means for CDL Drivers

Drivers with qualifying older engines may have another fuel option in Texas.

Check your engine label before using a different type of diesel.

If you're not sure, stick with regular ULSD.
