Major Truck Route Closing for 16 Months

A major bridge near the Port of Los Angeles is closing.
On October 22, 2026, Caltrans announced that the Vincent Thomas Bridge on State Route 47 will close for 16 months.
The full closure begins November 7, 2026, at 12:01 a.m.
About 53,000 vehicles use the bridge daily, and nearly 9% are heavy trucks.
The $750 million project will replace the aging bridge deck and improve safety.
Traffic will be redirected mainly through I-710, I-110, SR-103, and Harry Bridges Boulevard.
Police will also increase commercial truck enforcement around the construction area.
The bridge is expected to reopen in early March 2028.
What This Means for CDL Drivers
Drivers hauling containers around the Los Angeles and Long Beach ports should plan their routes carefully.
Expect detours and possible traffic delays during the construction period.
