New York City Offers $5 Million to Move Truck Deliveries to Nighttime

New York City wants more trucks making deliveries at night. NYC DOT announced $5 million in incentives to help businesses move commercial deliveries from busy daytime hours to between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.
The first phase provides more than $500,000 to up to 14 businesses. Applications are open for the next phase.
The money can help businesses purchase quieter unloading equipment, install security cameras, and improve building security so deliveries can happen without employees being present.
Funding comes from New York City's congestion pricing program.
What This Means for CDL Drivers
Truck drivers making deliveries in New York City could see more evening and overnight appointments. Less daytime traffic may make deliveries faster and reduce time spent waiting to unload.
The payments go to participating businesses, not directly to truck drivers.
NYC DOT hopes to move up to 62,000 daily truck trips away from peak daytime hours by 2040.
