Kodiak Trucks Get Camera Mirrors
Some driverless trucks are getting cameras instead of traditional side mirrors.
On October 28, 2026, Stoneridge announced a new partnership with Kodiak AI.
Kodiak is already using the Stoneridge MirrorEye camera system on newly deployed trucks equipped with its autonomous driving technology.
MirrorEye uses exterior cameras and displays instead of traditional side mirrors.
FMCSA previously granted Stoneridge an exemption allowing qualifying trucks to operate without conventional rearview mirrors. The exemption was renewed in 2024 for five years.
The technology could help Kodiak make its sensor systems smaller, lighter, and more aerodynamic.
The companies also plan to explore additional camera and vehicle technologies.
What This Means for CDL Drivers
Camera mirrors are becoming more common in commercial trucking.
This partnership focuses on Kodiak's autonomous trucks. It does not create any new mirror requirements for regular CDL drivers.
