Arizona Allows 90,800-Pound Farm Trucks

On October 16, 2026, Arizona began accepting applications for free overweight permits allowing qualifying agricultural trucks to operate at gross weights of up to 90,800 pounds.

Governor Katie Hobbs signed Executive Order 2026-03 on October 13 to provide temporary relief for agricultural transportation.

The permits cover certain agricultural products, livestock, farming supplies, and equipment.

The exemption applies only to approved routes and does not allow overweight travel on Interstate highways.

The emergency measure is scheduled to remain in effect through December 31, 2026, unless ended earlier.

What This Means for CDL Drivers

Truck drivers and owner-operators hauling agricultural loads in Arizona may qualify to carry heavier loads without paying the usual overweight permit fee.

However, carriers must obtain the free permit from Arizona DOT before operating above normal weight limits.

Drivers must also follow approved routes and posted bridge restrictions.
