Save Up to 714 Gallons of Diesel a Year

By CDLCrewEditorial standards

Want to spend less money on diesel? Better aerodynamics could help!

A new report from the North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE) shows how aerodynamic equipment on trucks and trailers can reduce fuel consumption.

Here's an example:

A truck driving 105,000 miles a year and averaging 7 MPG could save about 714 gallons of diesel annually by improving fuel economy by 5%.

How? By using trailer side skirts, rear aerodynamic devices, and wheel covers.

According to NACFE, installing these devices can cost between $6,000 and $7,500.

Depending on diesel prices and actual fuel savings, the equipment could pay for itself in 19 to 30 months.

What This Means for CDL Drivers

For owner-operators, saving diesel means keeping more money in their pockets.

Even a small improvement in MPG can make a big difference over thousands of miles.

But remember, 714 gallons is an example, not a guaranteed result. Actual savings depend on speed, mileage, equipment, and driving conditions.
