House Committee Advances Diesel Emissions Reduction Program Through 2029

Trucking fleets could continue receiving federal support to replace or upgrade older diesel equipment under legislation advancing in Congress.

The House Energy & Commerce Committee unanimously approved the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act of 2025 (H.R. 2140) on September 2. The bill would extend the DERA program through fiscal year 2029, authorizing up to $100 million annually.

DERA provides grants and rebates for voluntary projects involving older diesel engines and vehicles, including heavy-duty trucks. The American Trucking Associations welcomed the committee's action.

The proposal has not become law and must advance further through Congress.
