Drug Traffickers Used Trucking Companies Without Their Knowledge to Transport Cocaine Across the U.S.

On October 13, 2026, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced the arrests of more than 20 people involved in a major drug trafficking operation.

Investigators say the criminal network used legitimate trucking companies to transport cocaine from California to Florida without the carriers knowing what was inside the shipments.

The investigation, known as Operation Ice Breaker, began in March 2026 and uncovered a drug distribution network operating in Palm Beach, Broward, and St. Lucie counties.

Authorities intercepted one shipment containing more than 40 kilograms of cocaine hidden in commercial freight. Investigators seized at least 45 kilograms of cocaine during the operation.

The suspects face charges including racketeering and trafficking in cocaine, fentanyl, and methamphetamine.

What This Means for CDL Drivers

Truck drivers and trucking companies can unknowingly become involved in criminal shipments.

Drivers should check shipping documents, verify trailer seals, and report suspicious cargo or unexpected changes to their shipments.

This case shows why cargo security matters even when a load comes through a legitimate freight company.
