DOT Announces $200 Million for Truck Parking in 12 States

By CDLCrewEditorial standards

Finding truck parking could get easier. On October 14, 2026, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced $200 million in funding for 14 truck parking projects across 12 states.

The money will help expand public truck parking along major freight routes.

Where New Truck Parking Is Planned

  • Georgia: About 275 truck parking spaces near the Port of Savannah.
  • Iowa: Improvements and expanded truck parking at six rest areas along I-80.
  • North Carolina: About 140 truck parking spaces at the Port of Wilmington.
  • Texas: About 100 spaces at the Pilot Travel Center in Fort Worth and 305 near the Los Indios border crossing.
  • Wisconsin: About 106 additional spaces at two rest areas along I-41.

These are among the projects receiving federal funding.

What This Means for CDL Drivers

More truck parking means more places to stop before running out of driving hours. Drivers may spend less time searching for parking and have more options for their required HOS rest breaks.

However, the funding announcement does not mean these parking spaces are available today. Construction and opening dates will depend on each project.
