Border Truck Freight Jumps Nearly 30%
Trucks are moving more valuable freight across U.S. borders!
On October 21, 2026, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) released its August report on freight moving between the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
According to the reported figures, trucks carried about $109 billion worth of goods across the borders in August.
That's 29.8% more than in August 2025.
Truck freight between the U.S. and Mexico was worth about $73.9 billion. Freight between the U.S. and Canada reached $35.2 billion.
Major truck crossings include Laredo, El Paso, and Otay Mesa along the Mexican border, plus Detroit, Port Huron, and Buffalo along the Canadian border.
What This Means for CDL Drivers
Cross-border trucking remains a huge part of the freight business.
But remember: these numbers show the dollar value of goods, not the number of loads.
A 29.8% increase in freight value doesn't mean truck drivers are making 29.8% more money.
