I-35/80 Closures in Des Moines

On October 15, 2026, the Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) reminded drivers about major traffic restrictions on westbound I-35/80 in Des Moines.

The closures are part of repair work on the Saylor Creek Bridge near the Northeast Mixmaster interchange.

Work began at 9 PM on Friday, October 16, and is scheduled to continue until 5 AM on Monday, October 19, weather permitting.

During construction, westbound I-35/80 will be reduced to one open lane between Exit 135 (2nd Avenue) and a point approximately half a mile west.

Several entrance ramps connecting I-235, I-35, US-69, and IA-415 to westbound I-80 will also be closed.

What This Means for CDL Drivers

Truck drivers traveling through the Des Moines area should expect delays, especially on westbound I-35/80.

The restrictions may affect freight transportation through one of Iowa's major Interstate corridors.

Drivers should check traffic conditions, plan alternate routes suitable for commercial trucks, and allow extra travel time.
