A coalition of state attorneys general has sued USDOT, FMCSA, and DHS over efforts to access sensitive information belonging to millions of CDL holders.
The dispute involves the CDLIS database, which contains names, birth dates, Social Security numbers, license numbers, and other driver information. The lawsuit says roughly 17 million CDL records could be affected.
The states say the demand raises major privacy concerns and are asking the court to block federal access while the case moves forward.
