Ohio Allows Red Diesel on Highways

Ohio is giving diesel users a break.
On October 21, 2026, Governor Mike DeWine signed Executive Order 2026-05D.
The order temporarily stops state penalties for using red-dyed diesel on public highways.
Red diesel is normally used in farm and construction equipment, not regular highway trucks.
The change follows federal efforts to make diesel fuel more affordable.
Ohio's order takes effect immediately and runs through December 31, 2026.
What This Means for CDL Drivers
Truck drivers and owner-operators in Ohio may have another fuel option during this period.
But the order does not remove every fuel tax or every safety rule.
Before using dyed diesel, make sure the fuel meets your truck manufacturer's requirements.
