Minnesota Allows Trucks 10% More Weight

Good news for truck drivers hauling farm products in Minnesota!
On October 30, 2026, Governor Tim Walz signed Executive Order 26-12, extending temporary weight relief through November 29.
Under the order, trucks hauling corn, soybeans, wheat, potatoes, sugar beets, carrots, and forest products may exceed normal weight limits by up to 10%.
But there are important restrictions.
The extra weight is allowed only from the harvest location to the first unloading point.
Trucks using this exemption can travel on state and local highways, but not on Interstate highways or certain forest roads.
The order also extends temporary Hours of Service (HOS) relief for drivers delivering diesel, gasoline, ethanol, biodiesel, and fuel oil.
However, fuel haulers must still follow the 11-hour driving limit, the 14-hour work window, and the required 10 hours off duty.
What This Means for CDL Drivers
Eligible drivers hauling crops or timber can carry heavier loads under the temporary rules.
Fuel haulers also receive limited HOS relief, but normal driving and rest limits still apply.
The order expires November 29, 2026, unless canceled earlier.
