While You Slept: 683,000-Pound Oversize Load Rolled Across Maine

A massive 683,530-pound load moved through Maine overnight.
The nearly 220-foot transport left Jay Tuesday evening carrying a heat recovery steam generator toward South Portland. The entire combination is about 20 feet wide and nearly 20 feet tall.
MaineDOT scheduled the first stage from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday. The load can occupy two lanes in some areas and is traveling with escort vehicles, law enforcement and utility crews.
The trip is expected to take at least two nights. Eight more oversized loads are scheduled to follow the same route.
