Michigan Allows Red Diesel for Farm Trucks

On October 12, 2026, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed Executive Order 2026-15, temporarily allowing certain agricultural and logging vehicles to use red-dyed diesel fuel on public roads.

The order applies to vehicles registered with farm or wood harvester license plates.

The exemption runs from October 12 through December 31, 2026, unless terminated earlier.

The measure is intended to help farmers and logging businesses manage high diesel costs during the harvest season.

What This Means for CDL Drivers

Truck drivers and owner-operators working in agriculture or logging in Michigan may qualify for this temporary exemption.

However, the order does not automatically apply to regular commercial trucks.

Drivers should verify their vehicle registration and eligibility before using dyed diesel fuel.
