Kodiak Truck Runs 64 Days Without Restart

By CDLCrewEditorial standards

Kodiak AI announced a new reliability record for its driverless trucking technology on October 20, 2026.

A truck equipped with the Kodiak Driver autonomous system remained powered on and available for service for 64 consecutive days without restarting.

The record was achieved between June 30 and September 1 at an industrial operation in the Permian Basin in Texas.

Five additional autonomous trucks each operated for more than 45 consecutive days without restarting.

Kodiak said its customer Atlas Energy Solutions operated 35 driverless trucks in the Permian Basin as of June 30.

The company plans to expand that fleet to 100 trucks by mid-2027.

Kodiak is also preparing to launch commercial driverless highway operations on Interstate 45 between Dallas and Houston by the end of 2026.

What This Means for CDL Drivers

Autonomous trucks are already working in industrial operations, and Kodiak plans to expand into highway freight transportation.

The announcement does not change CDL requirements or existing rules for traditional truck drivers.
