Iowa Extends 90,000-Pound Truck Limit

On October 10, 2026, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds extended a temporary weight exemption for trucks transporting agricultural products.
The exemption remains in effect through November 7, 2026.
Trucks carrying corn, soybeans, hay, straw, silage, stover, fertilizer, and manure may operate at gross weights up to 90,000 pounds without a special overweight permit.
The exemption applies to qualifying roads throughout Iowa, excluding Interstate highways.
Trucks must still follow axle weight restrictions, including the 20,000-pound maximum for a single axle, and posted bridge and road limits.
What This Means for CDL Drivers
Truck drivers hauling grain and agricultural products in Iowa can carry heavier loads during the harvest season without obtaining an additional overweight permit.
However, the exemption does not apply to Interstate highways, and all other applicable weight and safety restrictions remain in effect.
