IKEA to Launch Driverless Trucking on I-45 in Texas

IKEA freight is about to move without a driver in the cab.

Kodiak AI plans to begin driverless commercial freight operations for IKEA later in 2026 on I-45 between Dallas and Houston. The approximately 219-mile highway portion will operate without a driver or safety observer inside the truck.

The companies have already spent about four years testing freight operations on the route with a safety driver. During that time, autonomous trucks moved more than 1,300 IKEA loads and traveled over 750,000 miles.

Kodiak says driverless operations will begin after it completes its highway safety case.
