The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) announced a full overnight closure of Interstate 26 East near Asheville on October 8 as crews prepare to open additional travel lanes.

The closure is scheduled from 8 p.m. Thursday, October 8, until 6 a.m. Friday, October 9. Eastbound I-26 will be closed between I-40 and Long Shoals Road (Exit 37).

Drivers will be directed to use I-40 East and Hendersonville Road (Exit 50), then continue toward Long Shoals Road or Airport Road. Truck drivers traveling through the area should plan for detours and possible delays.

After the work is completed, four eastbound lanes are expected to be available along a 12-mile section from I-40 toward US-25 in Hendersonville.
