The companies were shut down between October 2025 and August 2026.
Officials said 13 of the companies were “chameleon carriers.” These are companies that change their names or create new businesses to avoid safety rules and government action.
Authorities also stopped 40 more companies from getting the safety certificates they need to operate.
Since October 2025, officials have issued 443 penalties against trucking companies as part of the safety crackdown.
The government also shut down five trucking schools that officials said were not meeting the required standards.
Officials are also investigating a driver hiring practice called “Drivers Inc.” Some companies use this system to treat drivers as independent contractors instead of employees. Officials say this can mean less training, less supervision and fewer protections for drivers.
The government says the goal is simple: keep unsafe companies, poorly trained drivers and bad training schools off Canadian roads.
