The U.S. Department of Transportation announced more than $1.6 billion in emergency funding to repair roads and bridges damaged by natural disasters.

The funding will support repairs in 34 states, Washington, D.C., and several U.S. territories.

North Carolina will receive $873 million for damage caused by Hurricane Helene. Hawaii will receive $81 million for storm damage, while Texas will receive $52 million for flooding and damaged bridges.

The money comes through the Federal Highway Administration's Emergency Relief Program.

What This Means for CDL Drivers

The funding will help states repair damaged highways and bridges used by commercial trucks.

Some routes may become safer and more reliable after repairs are completed. However, DOT has not announced specific reopening dates for these projects.
