Connecticut Begins $88 Left-Lane Enforcement

Drivers in Connecticut can now face an $88 fine for improperly staying in the left lane on multi-lane highways.
New provisions took effect October 1, strengthening enforcement of the state's "Pass Left. Drive Right." rules. Drivers generally must use the right or middle lanes and move left when passing.
Commercial vehicles already had additional restrictions on using the extreme left lane on certain highways. The new provisions clarify and expand the rules for other motorists.
Exceptions include preparing for a left exit, avoiding an obstruction, following police directions and moving over for emergency vehicles.
