Trucking Group Challenges UCR Fees in Court
A trucking group is fighting higher registration fees.
On October 23, 2026, the Small Business in Transportation Coalition (SBTC) announced that it had filed a federal court challenge against FMCSA's new UCR fees.
The lawsuit was filed on October 20.
FMCSA approved an average 20% increase in Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) fees for 2027.
For companies with one or two trucks, the annual fee increases from $46 to $55.
SBTC argues that the UCR system was not properly established under federal law.
The group also claims that truckers' personal information, including Social Security numbers, has been shared improperly.
These are allegations. The court has not ruled in SBTC's favor.
What This Means for CDL Drivers
The case is especially important for owner-operators and small trucking companies.
If SBTC wins, the court could change or cancel the new fee rule.
For now, the lawsuit does not suspend UCR registration or payment requirements.
