Dry Van Rates Rise, Reefer Rates Fall

By CDLCrewEditorial standards

Freight rates moved in different directions last week.

On October 26, 2026, FTR and Truckstop released new spot market data for the week ending October 23.

Dry Van rates increased by 2 cents per mile.

Reefer rates dropped by 5.5 cents per mile, while Flatbed rates fell by 1.7 cents.

Despite the weekly changes, Dry Van rates remained more than 48% higher than a year ago.

But available loads dropped 2.3% during the week.

The number of loads compared with available trucks also fell to its lowest level since January.

What This Means for CDL Drivers

Owner-operators hauling Dry Van freight are still seeing stronger rates than last year.

But fewer available loads could make it harder to find good-paying freight.

Reefer and Flatbed drivers saw lower spot rates during the latest reporting week.
