Georgia Suspends Diesel Tax and Allows Trucks Up to 95,000 Pounds

Georgia is giving truckers temporary relief from high diesel prices.

Governor Brian Kemp suspended the state motor fuel excise tax from September 29 through October 29. For diesel, the suspension removes 37.3 cents per gallon in state tax during that period.

Georgia also temporarily relaxed some commercial vehicle weight restrictions. Certain five-axle trucks operating with an emergency permit can weigh up to 95,000 pounds on state-maintained roads.

The higher weight allowance does not apply on interstate highways.
