Dry Van Capacity Shrinks 26% as Spot Rates Stay 32% Above Last Year

There are far fewer dry van trucks competing for freight than a year ago.

DAT Freight & Analytics reports that available dry van truck postings are down 25.8% year over year. At the same time, load postings increased 29.7%, pushing the load-to-truck ratio to 11.40.

Average dry van spot linehaul rates were $2.17 per mile, excluding fuel. That's 31.9% higher than the same period last year and $0.34 per mile above the nine-year seasonal average.

The numbers point to a tighter dry van market: fewer available trucks are competing for more posted loads.
