94-Year-Old Trucker Wants to Become the World’s Oldest

Orrin Asmus turned 94 on August 11. He started driving trucks when he was just 19 years old.

His first trucking job came unexpectedly. His brother-in-law became sick and could not deliver a load of cattle to Chicago, so Asmus took the truck. He had never driven a semi before.

Asmus has worked in trucking for many years. He says trucking was very different when he started. There were no electronic logs, fewer highways and different rules for drivers.

Today, Asmus still drives part time when his company needs him. He has worked for McLaughlin Freight in Iowa since about 2011.

The current Guinness record holder was certified at age 90 in December 2025. Asmus is now older, so his company sent an application to Guinness World Records.

The application is still being reviewed. Asmus says he is happy to keep driving whether he gets the record or not.
