Tennessee Tests Real-Time Truck Parking Alerts on I-40

Truck drivers on I-40 in Tennessee can now get real-time information about available parking at the Smith County Welcome Center.

TDOT has activated a Truck Parking Availability System that uses sensors, radar, LiDAR and cameras to determine truck parking availability.

Drivers can receive parking information through roadside signs and in-cab alerts through ELDs. TDOT says cameras used for the system are not recorded and are not used for enforcement.

The pilot will be evaluated over the coming months as Tennessee considers expanding the technology to other truck parking facilities.
