Montana Extends HOS Relief to In-State Diesel and Gasoline Haulers

Montana is giving fuel haulers more flexibility on hours of service.

Governor Greg Gianforte signed an executive order extending the federal HOS waiver to drivers transporting gasoline and diesel entirely within Montana. Intrastate fuel haulers can now operate under the same temporary rules as interstate carriers.

Covered drivers may drive up to 16 hours in a 24-hour period, but specific rest and safety requirements still apply. Drivers must also carry a physical or digital copy of the waiver.

The relief applies only to gasoline and diesel transportation and remains in effect through December 16, 2026.
