Customer asked for a valve calibration

Here's why it matters A customer came in and asked us to calibrate the valves on his Cummins. Smart move. Many owners never think about it until something breaks. Valve clearance doesn't stay the same. As the engine runs, parts wear and the gap between the rocker arm and the valve train drifts out of spec. Too tight: the valve may not close fully. That leads to burned valves, lost compression, and hard starting. This is the most dangerous case, because it can end in a head job or an engine rebuild. Too loose: you get ticking, less power, and extra wear on the rockers, pushrods, and cam. Fuel and performance: correct clearance keeps valve timing accurate, so the engine breathes and burns fuel the way it was designed to. On engines with an engine brake, the brake lash has to be right too. Checking on schedule costs a few hours. Skipping it can cost thousands. Valve calibration isn't an extra expense. It's cheap insurance for your engine. 🔧
